A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

The moon shines as the midnight wind blows through the half-opened window. A stern figure sits in a brown leather chair and lights up a cigar.

"There's a case for you Mr. Investigator," the man speaks a deep hoarse tone and holds out a piece of paper to the other figure in front of him.

"I'll be back shortly, Mr. Boss." Investigator lowers his hat. He nods toward Boss and turns to head out.

His name is Private Investigator. You can call him I.

Some Background Info:

What?! is an investigation game with comical, untraditional endings. The game contains different cases that require the player to take on the role of Mr. Private Investigator to explore the crime scene, interact with clues, and ultimately solve the classic "whodunit" question.

* This is a 4-week prototype inspired by the 1- bit 'dither-punk' aesthetic of early pixel graphics. The game takes on the detective fiction subgenre and mashes together mystery and comedy to form our own take on comedy noir.

* There are currently two cases, with the second being recently added. We are aiming to expand this game in the future.

* Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. We hope you enjoy this passion project of ours! :)

I liked the graphics and art. The cases are a bit "simple" nonetheless very funny.

It was a good game so far. I like the cutscenes when we solve Timothy Burke's case. The pigeon scared me when it flew from the door which was a nice touch. The critique I have with the game is that I had trouble with the camera control in the first case. The second case story was confusing to me as well. Lastly, the grammar needs a bit of work. In the future, will the cases relate to one another or will they have no correlation

Thanks for the feedback! We currently don't plan on back-to-back cases having strong correlations to each other, perhaps a minor reference for continuity (though in the future we may experiment with creating longer cases that can be broken down into multiple case parts).

I have a question, will the game have different endings within 1 case?

(2 edits)

Yes, though there is only one true ending to solve each case.

And also case 2 is still in developing.

Okay. Also Cathy, I have a question to ask you. Will you be interested in playtesting my game and filling out a questionnaire?

sure!

Well done! I would like to see more investigations, you can go crazy-creative with this concept :D

Thank you for playing our game! We're glad you got a laugh out of the endings lol
